Prep Meeting: August 18

Objectives: Talk about freshman, start building discussion.

Objective #1: Talk about freshmen

  • First of all, remember to be nice. =) Learn to smile.
  • Freshman Hour is actually more of a Neophyte Hour
  • Will there be an apprenticeship? If so, who’s willing to take on an apprentice?
  • Alternative: Let their talents develop naturally by giving them a lecture for about the first ten to fifteen minutes of the Hour and then let them have a go at building.

Now we’ve begun to consider a Parental Orientation. From personal experience, some people’s parents question the validity of VEX Robotics as an  after-school activity. Then will be our chance to win over their hearts.

  • Will it be on the same day as Back to School Night?
  • If not, what day will it be on? (Primary contender looks like it might be 08/26/10. Or the week after that. We might have to ask freshmen to ask  their parents when a good time would be.
  • And for how long? (Looks like it’ll be about a ten-minute presentation with a robot demonstration.)

On a final note, looks like we’ve finally decided on a twenty dollar lab fee.

    New Officer Schedule

So  after inhouse discussion, our fearless leader has decided to reorganize our executive branch.

Now, the President shall predside over two branches.

The more paperwork laden and management focused Administrative side will be directed by Michael Perez.
The more technical Engineering side will be directed by Ryan Hill.

The Administrative wing must now find an assistant/apprentice.
The Engineering wing has named Jimmy Cao as the assistant/apprentice.

These two branches have been devised in order to better seperate labor and responsibilities. While new members will be more involved in one branch over the other, all input is welce. Eg. an administrative student may offer designs or ideas as well as learn building and programming. an engineering student may offer advice and all students are expected to help our fundraising efforts..

This is not open to discussion.

    August 3rd through August 6th, 2010

    by: Jaehyun Jeon

From now on, hopefully, you should be able to come to this blog and check out the days that you missed. This will be open to edits by multiple people. Ideally, those that wish to make edits should have their own WordPress accounts, so we can see who made what changes.

First non-officer meeting of the school year.

    Things discussed:

    • Officers: The number of officer positions has been reduced to two: the President (Michael Deo) and Vice-President (Michael Perez). This issue is NOT open to discussion.
    • Contact information: Last year, lack of communication due to inefficient contact information was raised as an issue. To remedy this, contact information is being compiled here at Google Docs. Please send in your contact information to Michael Perez. Alternatively, if you have a Google account, you may request that Michael Perez grant you access to edit the document. Please send in more than one form of contact information. The multiple contact information issue is NOT open to discussion.
    • Fundraising ideas: Yes, we are still selling chicken. And donuts. But the club doesn’t have a member with a car. If anyone has sixth period free and a car, let Perez and Deo know. We need someone to pick up the chicken. For morning donuts sales, a business partnership with Science Olympiad is being considered.
    • Mandatory meeting dates: A problem last year was that members showed up as they pleased. For the coming year, a mandatory meeting date will be put into effect. The mandatory meeting date is Mondays from three to five. This issue is NOT open to discussion.
    • Freshmen: Freshmen now have a Freshmen Day when they can come in and ask questions without being afraid of bothering the senior members. The Chaffey Workshop is now mandatory for them. This issue is CURRENTLY in discussion.
    • Returning members: If any members are returning, we would welcome a call from you. Currently, we know that the following members are returning: Michael Deo, Michael Perez, Ryan Hill, Jimmy Cao, and Jaehyun Jeon (tentative).
    • Robot designs: Jimmy had a robot design they drew on the board. So did Ryan Hill. Michael Deo took pictures of both. If he could upload them, that would be great. This issue IS open to discussion.
    • Team Name: On a more lighthearted note, we are currently looking for a new team name as an alternative to “the Resistance”. This is because nobody knew exactly what the heck we were supposed to be resisting. This issue IS open to discussion.

Afterward, there was much cleaning out of closets.

On August 5th, there was even more cleaning out of closets.

Michael Perez has kindly provided a write-up of what happened on August 6th to be posted later.

Feel free to leave comments on things left out, suggestions, etc.
